TM12 • 4 Days :: Mount Meru Expedition
Tour Summary: This is the second highest mountain in Tanzania. It is a spectacular classic volcano cone, and well worthy a visit. A hike to the summit involves hiking through the grassland and lush forest on the mountain’s beautiful lower slopes, followed by a dramatic and exhilarating walk along the knife-edge rim of the horseshoe crater. There are two well maintained bulk houses on the route. The highest point is (4566m).
Day 1 Arusha-Momera
Pick-up from your hotel in Arusha and transfer to Momera gate (1500m) where the trekking starts. Hike for 10km to Miriakamba hut (2500m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 2 Momera-Saddle Hut
Hike for 6 km to Saddle hut (3400m) for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Saddle Hut-Meru Summit
Attempt the Meru summit (4566m). Return to Saddle hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 Momela-Arusha
Leave the mountain via the longer route to Mommela gate for transport back to Arusha hotel. Bed and breakfast basis.
