TM09 • 14 Days :: Mt. Kilimanjaro Climb, Wildlife Safari, Machame Route
Day 1 Dar-es-Salam: Arrive at Dar-es-Salaam; pick up from the airport to a Baharini Beach Hotel for overnight.
Day 2 Dar-es-Salam: After breakfast do a golf drive to Gymkana Golf Club, where they will spend the whole morning playing golf. After lunch take the afternoon city tour then return back to the beach hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 Arusha- Lake Manyara: Drive from Dar Lunch at the Novotel Mt.Meru hotel. (extra average $15PP). Depart Arusha and proceed to Lake Manyara Hotel. Afternoon game drive in the small game park. Dinner and overnight at Lake Manyara Hotel
Day 4 Lake Manyara-Serengeti: After breakfast. Drive for 4 hrs through Ngorongoro on your way to the Serengeti arriving there in time before lunch, check in to Seronera Wildlife Lodge. After lunch have an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight in the lodge.
Day 5 Serengeti (Balloon Safari): Wake up earlier for a balloon safari that will take you all round Serengeti. Land at around 11 am for a bush break fast. Back to lodge for lunch and later in the day have an evining gave drive.
Day 6 Serengeti: After breakfast, curry picnic lunch for full day tour exploring the vast plains of the great Serengeti and if you are lucky you may witness remnants of the great migration; dinner and overnight.
Day 7 Serengeti-Ngorongoro: Breakfast. Leisurely drive to Ngorongoro national park, arrive there in time before lunch, check in to Ngorongoro wildlife lodge, after having lunch. Afternoon tour of this amazing caldera. Evening return to Ngorongoro Wildlife Lodge for overnight.
Day 8 Ngorongoro-Marangu: Check out with an exit morning game drive to Arusha where you will stop for lunch (extra cost average of $15 per lunch) then head to Marangu, check in Nakara hotel for overnight. Later in the day you will meet with the chief guide and other mountain crew for briefing, and packing.
Day 9 Marangu-Machame: Drive to Machame village, the climb starts at the end of the tarmac road. Walk through farms then forest to the Machame hut 3000m.
Day 10 Shira Hut:
Continue along the steep ridge going on to rock ridges and through heather. The route turns west into a river gorge, reaching Shira hut 3800m. Dinner & Overnight.
Day 11 Baranco Hut:
Continue east towards the lava tower. Shortly after this, you descend to Baranco Hut.3940m. Dinner & Overnight.
Day 12 Barafu Hut:
A short scramble to the top of the great Baranco and then a traverse overscree and ridge to the Karanga Valley 4000m. Beneath the icefalls of the Heim, Kersten and Decken glaciers, after climbing out the Karanga Valley the trail ascends a ridge to the Barafu Hut. A bleak location
with little vegetation at 4600m.
Day 13 Barafu hut:
An early start for the ascent to the rim of the Kibo Crater between the Rebbmann and Ratzel Glaciers 4hours.the last section before the rim can sometimes be snow- covered and an ice axe or ski-stick is useful for balance. From here a further hour leads to uhuru peak, from where there are often fine views of Mt.Meru to the west and the jagged peak of Mawenzi to
the East. Descend to the Barafu hut in the giant heather zone on the forest edge, those with energy on the summit may wish to descend to the Reutsh Crater and visit the dramatic ice pinnacles of the eastern icefields.
Day 14 Descent & Departure
A three to four hour descend through beautiful forest brings you to the park gate Mweka. Drive to Dar es Salaam for your flight back home. On the way back to stop in segera town for lunch then proceed to Dar.
